Toilets and Showers - updated 30/1/14
Following the move to our new venue for the 2013 War and Peace Revival, in response to the many comments over the years about toilets and showers, we were committed to supplying a higher standard and larger offering than at the previous venue. Unfortunately we experienced all kinds of issues in our pursuit of this aim as we failed to take into consideration certain difficulties that the higher standard would cause. For example did you know that every time we flushed a loo at last year’s War and Peace Revival we used 7 litres of water?! Like the Hop Farm, the Racecourse is at the end of the water supply so is limited in pressure.
Last year we contracted a water supply company to manage our supply and provide us with greater storage of fresh water, but like us they didn’t know about the 7 litre flush - so from day one we were fighting to get on top of the water usage, with the team working day and night to keep it going.
Some of the other issues we had were very sadly from sheer wanton vandalism. Showers were turned on and left running during the night in empty cubicles– often just after the water tanks had been filled. Taps were left turned on causing flooding and wasting precious water. Elsewhere a water supply pipe was cut and separated allowing water to flow away, while some people even tapped into the water supply and piped it into their own camps –all of which helped to cause a water shortage. And of course we had the odd loo or shower door torn off for good measure!
So this year we have addressed these issues by changing the type of toilets, bringing the stored water on site much earlier and increasing the amount of water. Security will be appointed to monitor the supply pipes to ensure no one causes any vandalism to the pipe work or taps off the system. Each of the toilet and shower areas will have a uniformed cleaner on duty covering 16 hours a day during the duration of the event and for 12 hours a day in the run up to the opening. Staff will be clearly identifiable and in radio contact should they need to summon help. All we ask in return is for all exhibitors and campers to treat the facilities and staff with the same respect you would your own facilities at home or as you would expect to be treated.
If you find a problem please bring it to our attention via the toilet staff or Event Control. We will do our best to resolve any issue promptly – better at the time than by email after the event when it is too late to rectify.
We look forward to your support in this area.
Please note these facility points do not have electric sockets.
