The Dale Prior Memorial Award - is for any variant of the Humber 1-Ton FV1600 series that combines originality with good maintenance

This award is to mark the memory of Dale Prior and his association with the Humber 1-Ton FV1600 Series of trucks which he greatly admired. Dale was born on 1st October 1949 and like many of us grew up in the Dinky toy era. As a boy in 1956 he was impressed by seeing the real vehicles in convoys bound for the Suez Canal. Later on as a trained vehicle mechanic he was drawn to the functionality of military vehicles when he bought an Austin Champ, at the time of marrying Alison in 1973. Thereafter a series of Humbers and Land Rovers appeared and accumulated! Although he was never one for taking vehicles to shows he was an avid enthusiast of War and Peace where he liked to view the British post-war vehicles and chat with their owners. It was a great ritual tracking down those vehicle spares which seem to become scarcer as time goes on, this all seemed to add to the challenge. He often would say that he felt the Humber 1-Ton never received the attention it deserved and as a vehicle mechanic it often struck him as odd that the enthusiasm to present a vehicle for show was not always reflected in the level of servicing. Sadly Dale died suddenly on 14th March 2010. His wife Alison and son Ashley will be keeping up the tradition by attending as usual. They, together with his friends, wish keep alive Dale’s enthusiasm by presenting an annual award to the owner of the best Humber 1-Ton variant that combines originality with good servicing.
